Here is a video of how our Alcohol breath tests compare to the police breathalyser used by Australian police, the Alcoliser LE5.

I could have used an alcohol breath simulator for this test, but it made more sense to simulate getting drunk, for science purposes of course!

The test was run 30 minutes after I had consumed 3 drinks at 1.4 standard drinks each.

Here are the results

Test 1

  • Personal Breatho 0.041
  • Pro Breatho 0.038
  • Alcolizer LE5 0.038

Test 2

  • Personal Breatho 0.038
  • Pro Breatho 0.037
  • Alcolizer LE5 0.035

Although we have proven the accuracy of our breathalysers with a previous video (Accuracy of our Breathalysers), we are happy with these results and prove our breathalysers are in line with police breathalysers used on the roads.

We are especially happy with the personal device because in both tests it read 0.003 higher than the police unit. This should deter people even more from getting behind the wheel impaired, as the unit seems to be that little more sensitive.

Another interesting fact is the calibration certificate we received with the police unit states the breathalyser had a reading of 0.082 with a reference gas of 0.084. This is within tolerance, but still 0.002 below the reference gas.

Now I’m not saying our Breatho’s are more accurate than the police units, but it would seem so based on this test.
